The section of the M13 highway from Okny to the border was in extremely poor condition: potholes, surface breaks, deformation of the pavement and a long absence of any major repair.
No major repair was planned because traffic through the border crossing had fallen. At the same time the road periodically took heavy vehicles, so a standard pothole repair could quickly have stopped being serviceable.
The task was to carry out the repair on a minimal budget while achieving the greatest possible durability of the pavement.
Asphalt modified with the Veleton MPC dry addition polymer additive was used for the pothole repair. The additive was introduced directly into the asphalt mixture without modifying the bitumen beforehand.
Although the standards do not officially provide for modification of asphalt mixture in pothole repair, it was precisely this solution that made it possible to increase the resistance of the pavement and to extend the interval between repair interventions.
Veleton specialists provided advice on the dosage and the addition technology, quality control of the mixture at the plant, support of paving, checking of compactability at the site and an audit of the condition of the pavement two years after the repair.
The site was repaired in 2023. As of 2025 the pavement remains serviceable, with no defects.
The interval between repairs increased at least 3-4 times compared with conventional solutions.
The case shows that Veleton MPC can be effective not only for major repair and for laying new courses but also for pothole repair on roads with a limited budget. The key effect is that a temporary solution became a durable one: the 2023 repair is still serviceable in its third season.
The funds freed up on repeat repairs for a section of this length are up to 80,000 USD.
