Lozovaya, Ukraine, production of MZ B-10 with Veleton MPC for paving in Pavlograd
Asphalt mixture was produced in the town of Lozovaya for a site in Pavlograd. The aim was to test the use of Veleton MPC in an MZ B-10 mixture and to verify the stability of the solution through production, haulage, paving and compaction.
Dry addition of Veleton MPC directly into the asphalt mixer was used to modify the mixture, without modifying the bitumen beforehand. Two dosages were used: 3 kg/t for the first batch and 2.5 kg/t for the second.
Veleton specialists monitored the aggregate temperature at 192-196 °C, dry mixing for 15 seconds, additional mixing with mineral filler for 5 seconds, then the addition of bitumen and mixing for 30 seconds. The discharge temperature of the mixture was 170-175 °C and the temperature in the paver was 160 °C. Samples of the modified mixture were also taken for laboratory testing.
The mixture showed excellent compactability with no issues. Quality was consistent at both dosages, 2.5 kg/t and 3 kg/t. The temperature of the mixture stayed within the working range.
The projected increase in rutting resistance is up to 250% relative to unmodified pavement.
The project confirmed that dry addition of Veleton MPC can be used for an MZ B-10 mixture without modifying the bitumen beforehand and without complicating the asphalt plant's logistics.
The effect on the budget was not calculated. The main effect of the case is confirmation that the mixture is stable through discharge, haulage and paving.
“The mixture compacts excellently, with no issues. Veleton let us carry out the run without difficulty, and the quality of the pavement fully meets expectations.”
