Kyiv, Ukraine, Mykhaila Boichuka Street (MZ A-20 with Veleton MPC)
Mykhaila Boichuka Street is a section with intensive traffic and constant loads in dense urban development, next to the NTU buildings. The pavement previously required major repair because of accelerated rutting and cracking.
At the Zorya asphalt plant in Kyiv, modification of the MZ A-20 asphalt mixture with the Veleton MPC polymer additive by dry addition was used for the major repair. The mixture was produced with bitumen grade 50/70.
Veleton specialists provided an audit and selection of the mixture composition, setting of the temperature regimes, control of pavement compaction and sampling of the standard and modified mixtures for further testing.
The mixture discharge temperature was 175-185 °C and the temperature during paving was 165-170 °C. The mixture compacted evenly and did not flow.
The contractor gave positive feedback at the paving stage.
The expected increase in rutting resistance is 250-300% relative to unmodified pavement.
The projected reduction in repair costs is up to 200,000 USD over the first 3 years of service.
The case confirmed how straightforward Veleton MPC is to work with on an urban major repair site: the mixture behaved stably during paving, compacted evenly and produced no “melting” effect.
The expected funds freed up are up to 200,000 USD over the first 3 years of service. The additional mixture cost of 10-12% should be recovered within 1.5-2 years.
“The mixture with the Veleton MPC additive performed excellently: it compacts easily, behaves stably, there is no “melting” effect. We are confident that the service life of the pavement on this section will be considerably above standard.”
