
Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Nezalezhnosti Avenue, ZakhidDorBud asphalt plant (MZ B-10 with Veleton MPC)
On Nezalezhnosti Avenue in Chernivtsi a project was carried out using Veleton MPC to modify MZ B-10 asphalt mixture. The project was carried out under an unstable power supply: because of restrictions on the plant's operation, there was only time to produce four truckloads of mixture.
Under such conditions conventional bitumen modification becomes technologically risky, since any power cut can disrupt the process and give inconsistent material quality.
The task was to achieve a stable result without modifying the bitumen beforehand, to keep the production process under control and to minimise additional energy costs.
Veleton MPC at a dosage of 2.5 kg/t was used to produce the MZ B-10 mixture. Dry addition made it possible to do without a separate bitumen modification process, to eliminate the risks associated with possible power cuts, to keep the asphalt plant's work flexible and to obtain a predictable result even under unstable conditions.
The key advantage of the solution is the ability to work straight from the truck, with no additional energy or process burden on production.
The Veleton team provided control of the mixture production parameters, support of the process at the asphalt plant, advice to the technologists and staff on how an unstable temperature regime affects the properties of the mixture, control of reaching the working temperature at discharge, sampling of control specimens at the plant and from the paver, and analysis of the result in real production conditions.
In addition, an audit of the condition of the pavement was carried out in 2026, after the winter service period.
Despite the limited operating time at the plant and only four truckloads of mixture produced, the results obtained confirmed the effectiveness of the technology. The temperature of the mixture at discharge was 163 °C, which is below the recommended working level.
Strength figures at R50: the specimen at the plant 1.90 MPa, the specimen from the paver 2.37 MPa, average 2.13 MPa. The DSTU 8959 requirement is no less than 1.8 MPa.
According to the 2026 audit the section is in excellent condition after the winter period: no cracking, rutting or other pavement defects.
The project confirmed that dry addition makes it possible to obtain a stable result with limited operating time at the asphalt plant and an unstable power supply. A further advantage is reduced dependence of production on external factors and no need for a separate bitumen modification process.
The effect on the budget at the service stage was not calculated. The practical effect of the project is reduced technological risk under an unstable power supply, no separate bitumen modification, and a result above the standard requirements with no unnecessary energy costs.
