Uman, Ukraine, access roads to a chemical plant (MZ B-10 with Veleton MPC)
In Uman, access roads to an industrial chemical plant had to be prepared. The section was designed for heavy goods traffic, while the scale and the budget of the project did not allow conventional bitumen modification to be used.
The task was to increase the resistance of the pavement to goods vehicle loads, to keep the quality of the mixture on a limited budget and to ensure stable paving without complicating the process at the asphalt plant.
Dry addition of Veleton MPC directly into the asphalt mixer was used to produce the MZ B-10 mixture.
The dosage was 1.8 kg per 0.75 t of mixture, that is 2.4 kg/t. The bitumen content was 6%. The mixing regime was 11 seconds dry and 45 seconds wet.
Veleton specialists supported production and paving of the mixture on the plant's site, monitored the temperature regimes, checked compactability and took samples. The discharge temperature of the mixture was 169-175 °C and the paving temperature was 160 °C. 3 samples were taken for the client's laboratory and 1 sample for Veleton's own control.
The mixture laid without any issues and showed good compactability.
The projected increase in the service life of the pavement under heavy loads is 2-2.5 times relative to the standard solution.
Doing away with conventional bitumen modification freed up to 15-20% of the budget at the repair stage.
The case shows that dry addition of Veleton MPC is a practical solution for industrial access roads with heavy goods traffic and a limited budget.
Up to 15-20% of the budget is freed up at the repair stage by doing away with conventional bitumen modification. The potential effect over the life cycle of the road is up to 40-50 thousand USD freed up through a reduced need for medium repairs.
“Despite the limited budget, we managed to get a good, resistant pavement for heavy vehicles. Veleton's technology proved the optimal solution for us.”
